ABC 2019 – meet the speakers

The Aesthetics Business Conference is back for its third annual event showcasing the very best of the cosmetic industry.  Once again this year’s agenda is packed full of renowned industry leaders providing their invaluable insights into the aesthetics industry and how to build a successful business.

The conference, taking place on 26 September at the Royal College of Physicians, is designed for aesthetic entrepreneurs looking to build or expand their business and take it to the next level.

Richard Crawford-Small, Founder of Aesthetic Entrepreneurs

Effective business planning

Richard Crawford-Small will be discussing the topic of business planning at this year’s ABC, with his engaging talk entitled ‘Shy kids don’t get sweets’. With more than 15 years’ experience in helping to grow aesthetic businesses, Richard is well placed to guide delegates on how to think like, act like and ultimately become, an entrepreneur.

Richard is the author of bestselling book ‘Changing Faces: The Secret to Creating a Beautiful Medical Aesthetics Business’. He is also the founder of Aesthetic Entrepreneurs, the fastest growing aesthetic business community online, and specialises in helping promote ethical business development as well as focusing on helping aesthetic clinics to maximise their client journey.

Professor Bob Khanna, Dentist and Professor of Facial Aesthetics

Training and CPD

Professor Khanna will discussing the vital importance of quality training and CPD at ABC 2019. Professor Khanna is an award winning trainer and clinic owner who is renowned for being one of the first dental surgeons to utilise Botulinum Toxin and Dermal Fillers in facial aesthetic procedures. In 1996, his success with these treatments led to the development of his own pioneering techniques, which he now teaches with hands on training for dental and medical professionals.

Professor Khanna has authored the Facial Aesthetics Module for the Kings College Aesthetics MSc and is the clinical lead for the FGDP Facial Aesthetics Master Class at the Royal College of Surgeons. Professor Khanna also provides international consultancy. Dr Khanna lectures across the world, sharing his passion for Facial Aesthetics as well as running his successful clinic DrBK in Reading.

In 2012, Dr Khanna was awarded an honorary visiting professorship by the University of Seville, Spain. His vast knowledge of training, marketing, mentoring and support means Professor Khanna is well placed to help support budding entrepreneurs and established practitioners at ABC 2019.

Dr Rupert Critchley, Founder of VIVA Skin Clinics & Aesthetics Artist

Access to funding

Dr Rupert Critchley BM MRCGP will be discussing access to funding at this year’s ABC. His talk will focus on how he got started in the aesthetics industry and access to funding, drawing on his past experiences and industry knowledge to provide delegates with relatable recommendations they can apply to their business.

Dr Rupert is the lead clinician, founder and director of VIVA Skin Clinics, a range of highly regarded specialist aesthetics clinics with locations in Chelsea, Harley Street and The City. He qualified as a medical doctor back in 2009, is a fully qualified GP and has also trained in advanced non-surgical aesthetics. Dr Critchley has an in-depth anatomical understanding of facial treatments and provides all clients with a holistic personalised approach focused on patient wellbeing.

He has also been selected to join the top 10 Allergan mentees within the UK, forming a specialist group of talented practitioners. Dr Rupert’s own journey as a practitioner will enable him to bring relevant and applicable advice to practitioners at ABC 2019.

Mr Jonathan Bardolph, Director at J Bardolph Accountants Ltd

Tax and VAT advice for your business

Jonathan Bardolph will be covering the important, but often misunderstood, world of tax and VAT at this year’s ABC conference. When setting up your business, or managing an existing one, it is extremely important that your finances are in order. Over the years Jonathan has developed a keen interest in aesthetic medicine and helps to assist clients with tax compliance and their company account needs. This expertise will be invaluable for all practitioners across the aesthetics industry, no matter how big or small!

Jonathan has been working in public practice since 2004 and qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2007. He runs an accounting practice in the south of England and assists clients with personal tax, corporation tax, VAT, sole trader, partnership and limited company accounts including tax planning matters. He is also the treasurer to the British Association of Cosmetic Nurses (BACN) and therefore has a good understanding of the intricacies of the aesthetics market.

Shelly Hemmings, Cosmetic Account Handler at Hamilton Fraser Cosmetic Insurance

Claims, complications and Insurance

At this year’s ABC our very own Shelly Hemmings will be discussing effective complaints handling, claims and insurance. Shelly will focus on you as the practitioner, providing a case study to illustrate what happens in the event that a patient is dissatisfied with the outcome of their treatment. How can you identify the types of complaints that can occur, handle a complaint and take proactive steps to prevent a claim being made against you in the future?

Shelly will also be discussing the importance of a good comprehensive cosmetic insurance for those operating in the industry, as well as discussing best industry practice and how practitioners can continue to raise standards in cosmetics.

Shelly, who is Cert CII qualified, brings with her 10 years of insurance experience working within the personal lines and commercial divisions.

Throughout her two and a half years at Hamilton Fraser, Shelly has built an excellent foundation of cosmetic product knowledge. Shelly is keen to promote professionalism and high standards within the aesthetics industry and to medical professionals. Shelly has delivered various webinars to industry bodies such as the BACN, and travels all over the country presenting at the Hamilton Fraser Regional Evenings, which are designed to assist medical practitioners by providing them with the information needed to start or grow their cosmetic business.
